Last week I had a challenge. A client who is in the middle of creating a game contacted me. They were having a personal crisis. It was feeling to them like they couldn’t go on with the process and needed to abandon ship.
As a solopreneur of a growing business, I hadn’t given much thought to my business’ culture. In that moment, I stopped to consider what I wanted this to look like.
What is my culture?
I want the people I work with to honor themselves by fully being aligned with what is right for the moment. It’s important to me that they also choose their path from a non-crisis viewpoint.
I could see the culture of my business is to take a deep breath, get fully into our bodies and choose from there. That can be challenging, and one of the best ways to do that is through play.
So I got together with my client in crisis (virtually) and we played. My client intuitively chose a game and that’s what we played. After we did some intuitive drawing to gain more clarity.
When we were done, they were able to see the path through the crisis and we made a plan. The plan developed in a way that was even bigger than their original vision! The client stepped into action within that energy of excitement in a way that honored the other things going on in their life.
There is a creative path through most issues. How can you find it?
Whether you run a multi-national business or are a solopreneur, the culture of your work and workplace drives everything from personal satisfaction and well-being to profitability and customer retention. Culture is part of our everyday way of life. It includes values, beliefs, and traditions. How we express ideas and creativity is a reflection of our culture. It can be cultivated and designed.
