What does it take to Merge Work+Play ? To answer that, here’s a question: What is Work for?
More specifically, What is YOUR work for? A friend posed this question this week to me and I was intrigued because my immediate response was what it is NOT (but it once was not that long ago.)
Underneath the surface of the answer, ‘To give my Gift to the World’, what really showed up in answer to the question, “what is my work for” was:
To PROVE my value to the world.
I’m not proud of that. But that’s what it was. Even more clearly, it was to prove my value to my mother. To prove that I was worthy of love. I am the 4th of 6 children. I had a happy childhood and loving family, but it was always a competition to see who could get some attention from my very tired mother. I was a ‘pleaser’ attempting to be the perfect child and do the things that would show that I was special and lovable.
Does this ring true at all for you? Are you seeking worthiness and love through your business like I was?
Our childhood woundings, conditions and conclusions that we draw seem to create the perfect storm for creating our businesses to fix what is wrong with us and to get us the love we crave.
So when I lived in that belief, business was harder. It’s harder to enroll and market when underneath the ‘heart-centered-I-want-to-help-you’ is the wounded ‘I need to prove myself worthy’. This all shifted when I embraced my worth and discovered that my work is for creating a fun game.
You read that right….the purpose of my work is to:
Create a FUN Game.
When I live and play in my business from that place, everything shifts. ‘Cuz that’s a High-Vibe-Magnetic-Fun-Energetic place to be. Business got EASY. That is MERGING Work + Play!
When I realized that, everything was simple….I simply do that same thing with business owners. We create fun games for business marketing, for client engagement and to build a culture of fun, ease and joy in their businesses. I help them heal their play-wounds and their worthiness-wounds and their clarity-wounds and their confidence-wounds. Because healing is simply the by-product of playing games, creating games and standing in that value.
I was interviewed by Carrie Roldan on her show last week, and we drew some fun conclusions about play. You can watch it here.
